Henry Witka '51

Henry Witka grew up in Chicago and majored in commerce at St. Ambrose. After graduation, Henry worked for Marshall Field's department store as a decorator and loved to collect beautiful art and treasures. He was noted for his exquisite taste. He stayed connected to the University through participation as a member of the President's Club and attendance at events.

Henry's last visit to campus was in October 2007 for Homecoming festivities and his 56th class reunion. He had hoped to return to campus to see the renovated chapel and the new health sciences building. Unfortunately, illness prevented him from returning to SAU.

When Henry passed away in April 2012, he left a gift to the University that would warm anyone's heart. He not only left St. Ambrose University in his estate, but also named SAU the beneficiary of his IRA. He provided nearly $100,000 of unrestricted gifts to support the mission of St. Ambrose.
