Quiet Philanthropist Leaves Endowment to SAU

Quiet Philanthropist Leaves Endowment to SAU

A retired chemist, Wil Spring'51 led a simple life, active in his parish and Boy Scouts, as well as his alma mater, St. Ambrose. He lived all of his life in his childhood home in Keokuk, Iowa. He loved attending St. Ambrose athletic events, and was an avid sports fan, having played basketball for SAU during his time on campus as well as homecoming events, serving as a lector for Homecoming Mass until his health prevented his attendance.

Known for his hobby of making latch hook rugs and wall hangings, Wil left a wonderful estate gift to St. Ambrose, by designating SAU as the beneficiary of his retirement plans and commercial annuities. Thanks to his generosity, the SAU endowment will grow by $200,000, providing approximately $10,000 in additional revenue annually to the university. In addition, his unrestricted bequest will provide the funds to remodel a science laboratory in Lewis Hall. "Wil was a man of strong faith who cared deeply for his alma mater. We are honored and grateful for his generosity to St. Ambrose University" said Sally Crino, AVP for Advancement…We are pleased to honor his life's work as a chemist by using his gift to continue to improve facilities for the natural sciences."
